Boca rec needed for something different

freakerdude Apr 23, 2014 07:44 PM

I always visit the same places it seems, so I need some new ideas. I would like to not go too far west of I-95 since we are going to a show at the Funky Biscuit. Here's where we usually go:

Nick's New Haven
Tucci's
Kapow Noodle Bar
Rebel House
Boca Skewers

How is American Table 13 or The Spaniard?

13 American Table is great--go! Particularly like the grilled octopus, and any fish cooked on the josper grill.

I've been to 13 two or three times and I enjoyed everything. The inside can be very noisy FWIW.

Also, keep in mind, if you are on a budget it's going to be more $ than the 5 other places you named. You may want to check the menu to get an idea.

Not TOO much more than Rebel, but I found myself thinking "I can't just drop in here any old time."

If you go to Tucci's first, on your bill you will receive a coupon for 13% off 13 American Grill. They make great drinks. I've eaten at both 12 AG and Rebel House. My bill at Rebel House is always a good deal more.... maybe I eat more there? Fork and Knife is delicious- not as good atmosphere as the above mentioned. More of a diner atmosphere.

I enjoyed the food at 13 American Table, but the service left something to be desired. They completely forgot to fire one of the entrees for my group, and didn't realize until all of the other dishes came out. Then when it finally did emerge from the kitchen it was cooked improperly (probably rushing). We didn't receive an apology, nor was anything taken off of the bill. I understand that these things happen, but it left a bad taste in my mouth.

I believe the spaniard is closed. I hate recommending a place I've never been to, but I heard good things about Fork and Knife. It's in the same plaza as your concert so it's convenient.

Shake Shack doesn't do it for you? The Cuban Café?

Shake Shack would work for lunch. I've heard good things about the Cuban Cafe from co-workers. I have had Spadini's on my list as well for lunch, from CFB's comment

            Oh I almost forgot...

Spadini's right in Mizner has really really excellent NY pizza.

            http://www.spadinispizzeria.com/

At least one local pizza expert rates it higher than Tucci's. And I would not be so fast to disagree. (They are so close by physically, I should do a take-out side by side compare some day).

On an somewhat opposite note, I've also heard good things about Farmer's Table, over by the mall, which seems to specialize in "healthy" food that still tastes great.

Erica from NY gave them a good write-up and she's offered lots of good advice in the past.

I've been meaning to go but the "healthy" part usually scares me off when it comes down to decision time. :-)

We had breakfast/brunch at the Farmer's Table3 and enjoyed it a lot. They have a lovely outdoor area and the food was very good. .We plan on returning to try it for dinner.
