Last restaurant for special night

Hello everyone,

I'm going to NY next month and have been planning the restaurants for this trip for a few months already. Pretty limited budget, but familiar with the NY food scene.
So far, I've decided to go for Lupa, Murray's Cheese, Mighty Quinn and Sakagura. Lot of variation, all pretty affordable.
But I'm uncertain about our final night in NY. Special occasion (birthday), so want to do something special, but still affordable.

Any suggestions? Thanks so much!

Wow, great suggestions! Espcially interested in Louro and Kittichai.
A friend advised me Gramercy Tavern (tavern room), what do you think about that one?

Haven't been there. They don't take reservations.

We actually prefer the Tavern Room to the formal dining room at Gramercy; better vibe and we like the menu better. But like martinaDMJ said, they do not take reservations. You could always show up a bit earlier than you normally would have dinner and if you have to wait, they have a lovely bar with a great bar staff. In fact, my husband and I always dine at the bar. It's wonderful, though I could see where if this is a special occasion you may not want to and that a table would be more in line with your special night.

        2. Would you consider a special birthday celebration lunch? Many amazing fine dining restaurants offer pre fixe lunch menus well within your budget

Then in the evening you could go for a dessert tasting at chikalicious- note they don't take reservations, so going earlier in the evening would be less of a wait:

Great idea! Do you know anything about the lunch at Aldea (it's only 25!)? Will it be very quiet in these restaurants during lunch time you think?

Babbo has a wonderful lunch and the restaurant noise was at a comfortable level last time I was there for lunch. If you really want to step it up, Del Posto is a very special place and it is very quiet and beautiful as well. Their lunch is excellent.

Thanks! I actually prefer a bit of noise. Too quiet usually feels too formal. Babbo is a great idea.

Then skip Del Posto, it's quite formal. Babbo is more casual. Enjoy!
