Al Pastor Tacos:

For those that love their tacos freshly carved from the spit, I just returned from "El Taco Llama" see photo

They told me only on the weekends at this location they prepare the meat on the spit. This is at the location on Van Nuys & Sherman Way

So good....

What is the latest on Tacos Leo? What nights can I get the real al pastor tacos? How early and late?

        1. re: nosh

By the way nosh, I went by Tacos Leo last weekend and asked donde esta la plancha because they didn't have their stuff set up like normal. The woman's answer was ariba which means up here. I ordered a couple pastor tacos anyway and they were as good as usual. Not sure what their "schedule" is for setting up the grill. It seems haphazard.

      2. Does anyone know of one of these in OC?

Doesn't Taqueria Carniceria Tapatia in Santa Ana on W 1st Street have a trompo?

        2. Awesome thanks. El taco llama also makes my favorite hard tacos (also al pastor)

Fair warning I go to the one on whitsett. They are glorious - like legit al pastor combined with gringo hard tacos.

              see pics in this thread:

Nice and close to me. Gonna get there this week. Thanks again for the tip!

          2. Ok, so finally got there today and..it's definitely not Leo. Granted probably unfair to compare the Pastor to one of the best in the city but was hoping to have a close equivalent on this side of the hill. The spit was out though he pulled my meat from one of the hot trays. Bad start though it tasted like it came off the spit not that long ago. Overall, It was lacking a bit in flavor, definitely better than a generic taco spot but not as richly marinated as I would like, the main favors were the condiments, not the meat. Also got some over charred and fatty parts. Overall I'd rate it a 3 1/2 out of five, not bad but not great either.
