In St. Louis, where I grew up, a local favorite served at every Italian restaurant as a starter is toasted ravioli. Breaded or battered ravioli, usually meat, that are deep-fried, dusted with park cheese, and then dipped in the tomato sauce served alongside.
Enzo's in Westwood Village has offered these for awhile, and I'm seeing them on other menus occasionally. They are delicious, addictive, and also easy to duplicate at home. A huge hit when I bring them to potlucks.
