Yesterday's in Hazlet.

I know a few people who go to Yesterday's quite a bit, but I'm not sure if I trust their judgment. Any 'hounds have an opinion?

  1. I had an unfavorable experience a long time ago a week or two after they reopened post-fire. So that's not a fair assessment now. But I haven't been back yet. I always see a lot of people there, and I've heard good things by word of mouth.

My go-to Ciao Bella has been closed for a while, during relocation. Maybe I'll 'take one for the team', and report back.

I really miss Ciao Bella too. Any clue when/if they are reopening? I heard they were looking over by Palmer ave kind of diagonally across from the dollar store.

No idea unfortunately. There was some construction going on at the new location, but on the last couple of passes by, there didn't seem to be anything going on.

    2. This is probably the funniest post on here in a while.

I loathe this place. The only people who go here are hazlet/keyport/ub residents who long for endless mussels at the salad bar and have a loyalty to the place. Its funny how bad this place is.

To begin, they had a "fire" 5 years ago. Yes I put "fire" in quotes for obvious reasons. Anyway, after a restaurant has a fire and gets their insurance money, usually they go all out and make the place top notch. Not yesterdays! The same person who designed their web site in Frontpage, or their two signs in MS Paint, must have been the designer. The word kitschy to me is one of the most overused expressions out there. Faux hipsters use it to describe art they dont like or understand, soccer moms use it to describe other moms who are too showy, etc. Regardless, this place just reaks of kitchy, poor mans gaudy/everything wrong with Italian stereotypes in NJ.

Really, how on earth do you get a nice insurance check and come back and think it would be a great idea to design a restaurant that looks like it belongs in the living room of Sammy from the Jersey Shore show (lives across town)? This blows my mind.

Anyway, on to the food. Put mildy its bland Italian food that you would expect from the nicest Italian place in Wilkes Barre, PA. Its the same tired awful menu that has permeated Italian restaurants in NJ since the 70's or 80's. I've been here twice since the "fire" and not one person I went with had a dish of redeeming value. You know its bad when you spend 10 mins salting a piece of chicken and it still has zero flavor.

The only people who enjoy dining here are those who do not enjoy modern italian food, those who like oversized portions, those who want to eat bland mussels til they puke, or lastly, locals looking for a cheapie shower communion or wedding.

Seriously, go to their web site and see for yourself. $69 pp for a wedding??

This place angers me everytime I drive by and see their sign. I really hate to trash any restaurant-- because I know firsthand how much $$$, time away from family and effort gets devoted to it. Sadly, this place is an exception.

I can honestly say that you could get a better Italian dinner at Olive Garden or Macaroni Grill than you would at Yesterday's. Good riddance

Well, that answers that! Thank you for your review! I think I will sit idly by, and allow someone else to take one for the team!
