MESSA Tel Aviv review

Tel Aviv has a very interesting and vibrant dining scene and Messa is the leader of the pack. Chef Aviv Moshe produces flawless dishes in a bustling urban setting. The all white decorated restaurant is dominated by a huge communal dining table running through the centre of the restaurant with chrystal chandeliers hanging over head. By the side walls Messa provides private booths for those wanting a bit more privacy. I welcomed at reception and then quickly escorted to my seat at the communal table before being introduced to my incredibly friendly and knowledgable waitress for the evening. Messa has an interesting menu featuring twists on Istaeli classics like shakshuka and more international dishes like Moroccan style fish. I start the evening with a cocktail from the small but well thought and executed cocktail menu. Breads and 3 different dips are provided whilst I enjoy my cocktail. For a starter I have the "modern" shakshuka, traditionally an Israeli breakfast dish. Im not quite what to expect, but out comes a beautifully created bowl of sliced thinly sliced tuna, soft boiled egg, small quarters of toast with a cheese filling all on a bed of the most freshest tomatoes. Thinking of the dish even now, makes my mouth water! Whilst not the most interesting of the dishes on the menu, I choose the lamb cutlets as a main course. The lamb arrives beautifully presented with a delicious dipping sauce, cooked perfectly to a medium. I wasn't planning on having a dessert but as I was paying the bill my charming waitress brought me a delicious semifreddo compliments of the chef, insisting i couldn't leave without something sweet. I would highly recommend Messa if you are in Tel Aviv not only for the excellent food but also for the thoughtful caring service and striking interior.
