espresso in DC suburbs

There are a bunch of decent coffee shops in DC (Baked & Wired, Filter, Chinatown Coffee, etc.) But where are the good shops in the DC suburbs, esp. Montgomery County, MD? I'm especially looking for espresso, or a coffee from a pour over or another good modern brew method. Knowledgeable baristas and great beans are a must.

  1. If you're in Vienna, gotta check out Amore Cafe on Church Street. They roast their own beans, and have hand pours, press pots, even french press to go, in addition to a rockin' espresso machine and cups of excellence.

As for MoCo, Quartermaine coffee would be a safe bet. I personally don't care for their head roaster's "this side of burnt" personal style, but they do have several stores around MoCo and their staff is well trained.

    1. Haven't been there, but I've heard good things about Kaldi's in Silver Spring.

I'm in Bethesda and I usually resort to either Tout de Sweet (but more for the pastries than the espresso) or sometimes the clover at Starbucks. Don't really like Quartermaines.

      1. CremCaffe, 199 East Montgomery Ave, Rockville. 7am to 9pm. Ask for Zelda.

        1. I think MoCo's best (by far) is Dolcezza in Bethesda Row, just across from the Apple Store. Good beans (Intelligentsia among others), and baristas who know how to properly texture milk for lattes and cortados. The gelato is an extra reason to go.

          1. Knowledgeable (and very nice) barista/owner at 29th Parallel on Route 50 in Fairfax City. Not as expensive as other places I've been to, and nice jazz on the sound system.
