Late night eats and drinks ( after midnight) on a Thursday night in Kendall SQ. or vicinity

aregularjoe Apr 15, 2014 12:25 PM

Anything goes. Looking for a cool late night hangout after various eats and a band at club, before we go back to the hotel.

Your options dwindle rapidly after 11 p.m. Lord Hobo is about a 15-minute walk from the Kendall Square T stop and they have a late-night menu (open until 2 a.m.), but that's the only option that I can think of serving drinks and food.

State Park is open till 2am and has a limited menu of snacks (most of it fried)

West Bridge is open until 1 am. Good Kendall Square location and a fun spot. I have not been to Commonwealth yet, but they are open until 1. I am not sure if they have late night menus which huuvola refers to at Lord Hobo but you could give them a call.

maybe you're better off looking for a spot in the club vicinity.

i'm not asking from a base of knowledge, just wondering, about:
Commonwealth; Area 4; the new Hungry Mother outpost (and other places) in that Blue Rm complex; Union Sq. Backbar ; Atwood's? I always had thought that Central Sq was a late night/A.M. hotspot?.........

I'll actually be on the somerville Charlestown line, coming back to my hotel in Kendall. Central SQ further away and no good choice come too mind, except maybe the Midldle East, and only because I long for the days when I was fab and used to play there all the time...

Commonwealth is open until 1 but the bar menu stops at midnight.
Area Four is open until 1 but I don't know if the kitchen is open after midnight.
State Park is noted above as an option.
              Backbar closes at midnight.
Atwood's stops serving food before midnight.

Long story short: Slim pickin's if you want food at a bar after the witching hour.

Too bad Lord Hobo's food ranges from just ok to bad.
I have really enjoyed most things I've had at State Park.

Hmmm… Looks interesting and is close to "home" that night. I'll leave it up to the wife…

That late night menu for Lord Hobo looks fine. The burgers and fries are usually a safe bet. I'm not a fan of the food at State Park, but it is a more comfortable location. My suggestion is if you want a large beer selection go to LH or SP for cocktails and probably a shorter walk to hotel.

Yeah, the burger at Hobo is decent.
But I really love the food at State Park, particularly the boudin balls, the spicy fried chicken, and the twice baked potato!

The spicy fried chicken is fantastic.

Most of the options have been mentioned, but Abigails also serves a late night menu until 1am.

Precinct is not an option. It closed in February for renovations and has not re-opened.

Also if you consider Union Square in the vicinity of Kendall Square, you might as well throw in places in Harvard Square (Alden Harlow - 2a, Tasty Burger - 4a) and various other areas which aren't in the immediate vicinity that the OP asked for.

Given that the OP already said that Central Square was too far away, it seems unlikely that Union Square or Harvard Square would work.

The difference is that union is conceivably on the way home from the tavern (e.g. you could take a bus to union and walk the rest of the way - a trip i've made many times). Harvard is not.

Tavern at the End of the World is on the Charlestown-Somerville line and is open until 2:00 AM. I'm not sure when they stop serving food.

Oddly enough, that is exactly where I will be from10 to 11:30 on the night in question. I will be going there from dinner, and will be looking for a late night snack and a night cap after I leave.

I think that The Lord Hobo is the answer!

                        Thanks to all who responded.

The music doesn't start there until the food stops being served. It's a perfectly respectable option if the OP wants to eat first though.

To the OP: NB that this means that the music probably won't start exactly at 10. 99% of the times I see shows there that's more like a 'suggested starting time' and the reality is that it depends on if people are still eating or not.

@bostontweet maintains a good list, "Late Night Dining in Boston & Cambridge"

He seems to update it from time to time. The music part will take more research but this gives you places to check.

A good list, but out of date.

Apollo is closed (It was the WORST place in Chinatown anyway) and Moodys food is so bad now that I'd rather pick the garbage cans in Central Square.

I used to hit moodys regularly after tying several on. They (I believe/hope) changed ownership a few years back ant it has been wretched ever since.
