Can anyone recommend a nice wine bar/lounge near Sidney St Cafe? My husband and I are meeting another couple (all mid-30s) for cocktails before dinner there. They're not joining us for dinner (so not drinks there--if there's even a bar for it. Have never been--yet.). Thanks is advance.

I'd recommend either 33 Wine Bar or Planter's House (excellent cocktails) both in the Lafayette Square neighborhood and a short drive to SSC.

Also nice is Ernesto's Wine Bar in Benton Park.

if the weather is nice, the patio at the Venice Cafe is lush.

Also, the rooftop bar at Vin de Set in the Lafayette Square neighborhood - their indoor bar is gorgeous too.

Thanks for the recos, all! We ended up at Ernesto's (also recommended by my sister) which was perfect. Only downside is that there weren't any tables left on the adorable back patio, but that meant we had the whole inside to be as loud as we wanted. :) I've been to Venice Cafe back in the day, and we went to Vin last time we were in STL so it as fun to check out a nice place. Bonus - proximity to SSC. Thanks again.

Eesh. So sorry for the tardy reply. Need to change my settings here so I'm notified when someone responds to my thread! I blogged about our experience so maybe just easiest to point you there: http://www.theglobetrottinggal.com/a-....

                In short, it was fantastic!

Great - thanks for the feedback. Really like the food and drink at Ernesto's - it can get crowded and noisy inside though. Cheers!
