New bar Danforth bar/restaurant Local 1794??

I've seen the sign and can only find this online.

Local 1794 is a new bar under construction at 1794 Danforth, a bit east of the Coxwell McDonalds. A St. Ambroise sign has just gone up out front. The Twitter site promises a "Stylish and Sleek designed environment, quickly to become an inspiring addition to the neighbourhood."

  1. The old owner of Taps and Tales. Hopefully they can catch some of the spirit of the old place, none of the other bars in the neighbourhood have that level of fun.

YAY! Thanks for the info Pincus :)
Dare I hope for some of the same cooking and Dennison's Weiss on tap? And a patio? lol

      1. re: julesrules

And the same great price/food quality ratio?

        1. re: Pincus

Are you making a veiled reference to Morgans by chance? LOL!

          1. re: julesrules

Maybe. ;) I like Morgan's, but not enough to eat there regularly. I remember their food prices when they first opened. Let's just call them ambitious, now they've gotten lowered to acceptable upscale prices for the neighbourhood.

Just in case the owner is reading this, let me also say that Taps and Tales very good, varied and interesting housemade desserts did not go unnoticed either! Get that person back in your new kitchen :)

      2. They had the doors open on Friday. Looks really nice inside! Fingers crossed!!

        1. It's the old Columbo's pizza place.

Yup. I'll miss Columbo's, but hopefully this place can fill the void at least partially.

          2. A tweet from their account @EveryonesLocal on July 7th was hopeful, but no activity since then. :(

I keep looking through holes in the paper. looks kind of ready to go.

              1. re: mariecollins

Yeah, they had NO holes for the longest time. Not sure what else they need to do, just hope it happens soon.

            2. Firstly, hurry up and open already. And secondly, this is not a good name for a business in these internet times. I can't remember another random 4 digit number, and it is impossible to google "local" and "danforth" and come up with this place.

Anyone know what "The Borough" is going to be? It's a few doors west of Jerry's Supermarket, on Danforth between Coxwell and Greenwood. Looks like it might be another Wren/Morgans style place.

                  From their twitter feed:
#danfortheast 's new gastropub serving a local and sustainable inspired menu with a focus on our surrounding community opening soon

                  1. re: mariecollins

They have 3 tweets and that text is not in them. What twitter feed are you referring to? The one I checked was for Local 1794 @EveryonesLocal

                    1. re: foodyDudey

I was responding to the request about "The Borough" from KitchenVoodoo.

                  2. re: KitchenVoodoo

How many gastropubs can this neighbourhood support??

                    1. re: Pincus

The habitat for the gastropubs keeps improving in East York as housing prices keep going up and as the owners of long-running Mom & Pop restaurants close their restaurants. Way less old school Greek and Italian food seems to lead towards way more Mangiacake/Gastropub food.

                      1. re: prima

I'd be more happy if the booze cans shut down, not the Mom and Pop places.

Still, doesn't mean I'm not going to try out new gastropubs/fancy marketing terms.

                        1. re: Pincus

If you haven't been, Rails & Ales has good wings, burgers and Greek fries (which are pan-fried potatoes rather than French fries, topped with feta, oregano, oil and vinegar), and good prices. Not a fancypants gastropub, but tasty food.

                        2. re: prima

Yeah, I think the market is there, just wish one would open closer to us... instead we got the Works.

                          1. re: julesrules

You still have the Works? The one on Danforth closed a few months back.

                            1. re: foodyDudey

That is the one I mean, and yes, it closed. Will we be lucky enough to get something good that will last in that spot?

                              1. re: julesrules

I hope something good and lasting appears in that spot, but I am not sure what would fit in there. I would like a restaurant that serves Indian food from Kerala and the Malabar region. I'm interested in the seafood dishes like those shown here:
                                http://cooks.ndtv.com/recipes/cuisine...

Maroli is just too far of a drive and the dining area always seems cramped, but the food is good.

                                1. re: foodyDudey

Try Kairali on Kennedy between Lawrence and Eglinton in the old El Pulgarcito spot. They are absolutely fantastic with the classic dishes from Malabar.

                    2. Aaaanddd....another Chowhound thread derailed. :)
