Great cocktails in Portland, ME?

Between 10 people, my ONLY recommendations for a great cocktail have been Eventide Oyster Co. and the Hunt & Alpine Club.

Where else might I be able to find a decent cocktail? I like options.

  1. I went to Sonny's for a drink when I was in Portland last, the cocktails were delicious, so I would recc that place.

    1. Both of Eventide and Portland Hunt and Alpine are good options--and that ones that have gotten the most media attention lately, too.

A few places I like are Outliers, Sonny's, Grace, Portland & Rochester, & LFK. The Blue Spoon has great cocktails, but a tiny bar, so it's a good choice for having a cocktail with a meal, as is mexican restaurant Zapoteca. Walters, Ginkho Blue, The Front Room and The Corner Room have good cocktail menus but can be inconsistent depending on who's tending bar.

If you have a thing for hotel bars there's the Top of the East on the roof of the Westin Portland Harborview--there's a nice view but they're still working out some bar service kinks. And the basement bar at the Regency is fine if you stick to the basics drinkwise as the menu probably hasn't been updated since the 1990s, but it's a cozy spot.

Sonny's is a great starting point--It's usually my first choice when I want a cocktail--

I'm also looking forward to The Bearded Lady and Lolita--which both should be opening in the near future.

Is John Meyers still at Portland Hunt and Alpine? If so, that's where I'd go for cocktails. John is pretty well known in the cocktail industry for his excellence in all things cocktailian.

      2. I had some great cocktails (and great food) at Central Provisions the other weekend.
