Calistoga dinner for 19...please help, Chowhounds

Discerning1 Apr 13, 2014 11:15 AM

We're having a multi-generational birthday dinner in Calistoga soon on a Saturday night. 17 adults and 2 young ones.

Where to go? Has anyone been to 1226 Washington in the old Wappo Grill space?

Please, please help.

      Moderate. Entrées up to $25.

Having a place where the two children (1 and 7) will be OK is important. And I can't imagine that there won't be various food restrictions with 17 adults.

We ended up at 1226 Washington. The good: they set a lovely table for 19 that took up half the warm and attractive dining room. The servers were attentive and helpful.

Some of the food was good. The fried pickles with a lime chipotle dipping sauce was bar food at its best. I had the duck leg entrée, which was very good. Folks who ordered the daily special (halibut) were disappointed. I could smell the off-smell of the halibut from 3 places away.

The desserts were unusual. The grated beet chocolate cake was a particular hit with our group.

glad you enjoyed it for the most part.
sorry couldn't help with a suggestion.
although having lived in Granite Bay for years, we were familiar with the area from frequent visits but having 3 little ones never would have bothered with fancier places for a meal, probably packed our picnic every time we went.
