Was at Five Horse Tavern in South End this weekend for the first time and had a fantastic meal. Tons of good beer and really, really good food. I noticed they had two large round tables in the corner.

I don't know your price point but Sorrelina in the back bay has a number of large rounds in the back. I had my birthed dinner there for 8, it was great.

The Dogwood Cafe in JP has 2 big round tables that might work.

I had dinner there 3 weeks ago. Not the best meal I've ever had. I use to enjoy it there up until about 3-4 yrs ago when we felt things had taken a nose dive. We decided to try it again and we won't be back. The steak tips were tough and very chewy, came well done when we ordered them medium rare(we sent them back). There was only one other table with people and we wanted to sit as far away as possible from the front door. It was a cold night. The hostess said the further tables were for 4 and she couldn't sit us there. I swung my arm out and said...like there's a chance you're going to run out of tables in the next hour??? She said that was their policy. I suggested pulling the 1 table for 4 (which was 2 tables for 2 pushed together). While we were eating, someone that appeared to be a regular came in with their child. She happily sat them at a table for 4. Our rolls never came.....just a bad vibe all around.

The dogwood people have always been stupid like this, IMO

Solea in Waltham has several tables that can seat 8. The tapas are good and fun to share. Some might not rate it as "great", but I've always liked the meals I've had there, and the service is excellent.

Island Creek Oyster Bar has several big round tables that are great for this.

We did 7 at a round table at Rosa Mexicano - I bet they'd have one for 8.
