Another episode of 'When Restaurant Owners go Berserk'

http://kxan.com/2014/04/07/winery-res...

"Damian Mandola was arrested on Thursday when deputies say he admitted to breaking into the Duchman Winery in Driftwood to steal a bottle of wine. Court documents say two females at the winery locked themselves in an office while the burglary was taking place.

Just two days later, Mandola again was arrested at the Duchman Winery, this time for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Criminal Mischief."

  1. Well, an arrest isn't a conviction. I'm more in the opinion that a charge should not make it in the news. He may have been in the right. Or just needed wine. I've been in that spot before!

Have to agree with you there, rudeboy. It has always bothered me that the news includes names and photos when reporting arrests (no, I've never been arrested!).

He already admitted to burglarizing the winery (with witnesses). And I think a picture of him with a hammer in his hand and eyewitness accounts of his smashing up a vehicle are good enough for me. This is hardly a case journalistic sensationalism.

If we were to wait for convictions, then there'd be very little timely news. And none of us would know what happened at SXSW, for example.

And I kinda doubt he was in the right(!?!?).

Well, who knows. Maybe he just needed some wine, Maybe it was a habit in the past to just go get wine next door out of convenience and the burglary charge got elevated.
I guess there was some actual physical damage that was verified (hammer?). Actually, I kind of feel bad about talking about this at all.....

But more importantly, are you better? i've been holding off for the time being.

      2. Interesting. Certainly adds a sinister note to those allegations a few years back about him killing his neighbors' dogs.

Never heard about that. Was it found to be true?

          1. re: rudeboy

I don't think a criminal investigation was ever launched, but the facts sure sounded fishy.
