New BBQ joint on the North Fork (Wading River)

Haven't been yet, they are only open weekends right now, but sounds promising. North Fork Bacon and Smokehouse in Wading River, down by the pond. If anyone gets there before I do, let us know!

Ha, I was thinking of you when I said "bacon".

      1. Their pitmaster is a regular on the competition BBQ circuit. I hope to get down there this weekend.

Great to know, thanks! (and please report back, I know you are an expert).

        2. So, I go there yesterday to get some of their famous bacon. Got there at 11 AM. We open at noon. Went up island to run some errands and came back about 3 PM. Amazing BBQ aroma in the place. Pulled pork, ribs, chili but no bacon!!
"It's not cured yet!" I didn't know it was ill??
I had just had a nice burger for lunch so I didn't get anything.
          I'll try again next week.
They are open Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the moment.

Growing pains, I guess. Maybe I'll wait until they're open full time.

Worth a shot for BBQ on a weekend.

I am sort of fond of Maple Ave BBQ right now.

Do you think they'll be a good bet for Mothers Day (take out) ?

                  1. re: scunge

Call ahead. I went there on Easter Sunday and they wee closed.

          2. Have you ever had a situation where you just were not in synch with a restaurant. I've had that with Lucali pizza in Brooklyn. I have been dying to go there but:
First visit for lunch, dinner only.
            Second visit, pipe broke, closed.
Third visit this winter, @ 6:30 there was a 2 hour wait.
I have been having bad luck with North Fork Bacon too:
First visit on a Wednesday, open Fri/Sat/Sun!
Second visit on a Sunday 11 AM; open at noon. Went back at 2 PM for their amazing bacon; out of bacon!!
Third visit Easter 1 PM, closed for Easter.
Fourth visit last Sunday, Mothers Day and it was a mob scene. Line out the door. Who takes mom out for Mothers Day BBQ?????
            I'll try again soon.

Sorry about your luck, keep us updated though! Once you give the all clear I'll be checking it out ;-)

Judging from the crowds on Mothers Day it must be good.

Or else, they all have that "New Place In Town Syndrome"!

Just kidding: I know lots of people that rave about this chef. I'll get there someday, but first, that seafood at Maple Ave is calling my name.

Could have sworn I heard something about Oyster Po'Boys and Smoked Salmon? Maybe I dreamed it. If so, maybe they'll see this and think about it ;-)

Are you talking about Maple Tree??

                        1. re: Motosport

I can never remember their exact name off the top of my head. The Maple ---- BBQ place.

When they first took over the deli, and the BBQ was still a side thing, I recall them telling me they used to own the fish store across the street so it sounded like a logical progression. I'm not rushing there today, so let me know if you know anything.

                            That's Maple Tree BBQ.
I don't know where you got Maple Ave. I was ready to run out and find it.
