Hell's Kitchen Spring 2014 season spoilers

Worldwide Diner Apr 6, 2014 08:48 AM

I'm too lazy to start a new post every week. So let's just bitch and moan here for the rest of this season.

For the reward challenge, each team is required to make 10 plates of some kind of filled pasta, was it ravioli with lobster? Gordo puts Mike, DeMarco and Gabriel as one group on the men's team, thereby dooming the men's team. Sure enough, the men get off to a good start by putting up 5 good plates before the women even plated 1. But the women's system caught them up. Tied at 9-9, the 3 stooges finally puts up their first plate, which predictably sucked. The women swoop in and won...I really don't want to see any of these men or women in a bathing suit....please stop the flesh showing rewards!!!

The women actually finished their dinner service and then went to help the men. Jason, the anger management issue guy, crossed the line but at least he knew it - did he shove a woman or something? Whatever. Men lose, I think they put up DeMarco and Mike. DeMarco says he's not worse than Mike - even if true, he's not better by much. Gordo then boots Mike - who goes out with middle finger blazing.

Prior to being booted, Mike offered to move to the women's team, to their horror!

I am intrigued my Anton's voice. He's like a cartoon muppet voice. So I vote for him to win.

Lol, I forgot that Mike the Jersey douchey-boy had H!K tattooed on the back of his neck.

I think the men's team still need to get rid of Ralph and Gabriel (DeMarco got the boot despite the fact that he came out and said he was abandoned by his father - actually I'm not sure if his father abandoned him or his mother). On the women's team, Beth has to go. Frankly, no one stands out on either team.

I was looking for a recap this evening and stumbled upon an interview with Bev from the ladies team.
        http://blogs.ocweekly.com/stickaforki...

She actually has some serious cooking chops/experience working for Milliken and Feniger at BorderGrill.

I really haven't cared enough about this cast to look into anyone's background, but she might be the one to beat.

I think it's odd several people have commented on her being "old" when at least 3 other women are right at about the same age. Kind of makes you wonder if it was stunt casting for her to "act" old.

DeMarco probably should've gone postal. First he reveals that he was abandoned by his father and that he wanted to make something of himself as a form revenge. His team-mates cheers him on and then put him up for elimination because they think he sucks, not in this particularly challenge, but overall. Way to crush a dream.

So far no one is standing out. Glad DeMarco got the boot - I couldn't decide if he just didn't have the experience to be there or if he was getting a bad deal from his team mates.
I'd be happy to see Beth go, the rest of the women seem OK. Beth sure did crumble under pressure on last night's episode.

Were "Parker" and "Joanna" actors or did real people make the questionable choice to get married at 8 in the morning in an "exclusive" ceremony in Hell's Kitchen?

I think a lot of times people getting married on reality tv are actually getting married.... just do this for the publicity, to be on TV. It isn't their actual ceremony, they do that another day off site, but have this to make their wedding kind of a destination fun wedding. I mean, if you were invited, how fun would that be?

Some one on the HK production crew had a friend who was getting married. The producers offered them an 'appearance fee'. This was enough to pay for the 'real wedding' happening in the fall.

Beth talks about possibly losing her house and the lack of advancement opportunities in the Deep South because she's a woman. She earns some sympathy but not enough to avoid the boot. The editing seems unusually cruel this season, as it shows the remaining chefs kicking the dog when it's down.

Keisha says she's not dumb or stupid, just "flustrated." I guess she's not more stupid than a former vice presidential candidate for making up words.

Anton was smart being the rover. I don't know what Melanie wa mocking him for.

I am so "flustrated" with Keisha. Why can't she cook fried chicken properly? For that matter, why can't Jason do it? BTW, why aren't the fried chicken deep fried? I grew up in the south (Hotlanta baby), and I ain't never seen no fry chicken not comin' out of the deep fryer. Okay, I have, but they suck.

Beverly really didn't look sharp in this competition.

At this point, I'm most impressed with Anton.

What was the bottle blonde sorority sister on? That was the weirdest, most painful example of flirting I've ever seen. Looked like they hired a grade b porn actress to speak the lines. The other two sorority ladies seemed fresh and normal.

Jessica needs to go home. No more cry babies. I'm still routing for Anton, Richard and Rochelle as backups.

It *was* deep-fried. There were several shots of the chicken coming out of the deep-fryer in baskets, including the very first time the narrator utters the words "Fried Chicken Station."

I too prefer deep-fried, but it seems most Fried Chicken aficiandos prefer pan-fried. I've never understood the appeal.

I think Alton Brown did something on it. I could be wrong but I recall seeing something explaining the science of cooking fried chicken and why doing it in a cast iron skillet partially in oil rather than submerged was better. Of course, everyone's tastes are different.

Most people who like pan-fried cite the darker exterior caused by the chicken actually touching the bottom of the pan, but that's the part I don't like. CI loves it, as does AB.

They talk about a deep mahogany exterior and a crust that is actually not just crispy but crunchy, but both of those are things I think are not that great.

I'll stick with my deep-fryer. As much as we all love AB and take what he says as gospel, he's really seriously wrong about a lot of stuff.

I saw the deep frying shot, but then they tried to finish it off in the oven? All the chicken served weren't pulled straight from the deep fryer, right?

I was just blowing hot air. I like pan-fried as well as pressure cooked fried chicken.

Yeah, they tried to finish the raw ones in the oven, but they were undercooked in the DF first.

The properly cooked ones went straight from DF to plate, from what I could see.

This season is really about kicking a dog when it's down. Each team names its worst cook and they have to face off for elimination. Jessica, the recently homeless space cadet, was the worst for the women's team. Rich, the 48 year old sadist, was the worst for the men's team. I don't get that - Scott, Gabriel, and Ralph all suck more. I'd get rid of Jessica because she's psycho.

Ramsay seems to like Rochelle. Joy seems reasonably strong. On the men's side I still have a thing for Anton because of his weird voice, I like Richard but Ramsay will never pick someone his age, and Jason has something going on for them to bring him back for a 2nd try.

Gabriel deciding not to put himself up notwithstanding other people voted for him was classic. What a dumb a$$!

Jason seems to be doing pretty well. At this point, he and Rochelle seem to be the only balanced people on the show and he's the better cook of the two.

I'm not sure why the women threw Rochelle under the bus - in this case, I guess she is a threat to them and they know it.

Sandra can't communicate worth a crap but I still like her more than the 3 evil ghetto women.

Wasn't surprised to see Sandra go. Was mostly surprised she lasted as long as she did. Rochelle still seems like the person to beat, that and she seems likable and drama free..... of course, except's for next week's preview where we see her running off in tears. I refuse to believe the editing monkeys that she has a break down and will just assume she got hot peppers in her eyes.

I missed the very end. No big loss really. I figured the counting-challenged guy would go. Cuz, well, he can't count.

Apparently not being able to count doesn't count in Hell's Kitchen. Rochelle pretty much saved his ass. I'm still thinking final four Rochelle, Jason, Anton, Joy.

Kashia needs to stop blaming others for her failed dishes and then cop a f*cking attitude. I can't stand her crying in front of Gordo and then act like a bully away from him.

I don't know how Gabriel keeps getting by when he can't even count (and they thought he was stronger than Anton and Scott).

I agree with you on both. Gabriel seems completely clueless. Maybe he's a fabulous chef and the editing monkeys aren't letting us see it. Anton is a dick, but I'd rather count on him to get food out. I predict Kashia, Gabriel and Richard leave soon. I actually like Richard, but no way is Gordon going to let someone that old win HK.

Actually I (sorry to say) have watched every season fromt he beginning. I think Gordon has actually mellowed out. For a while he seemed very hell bent on humiliating contestants for physical flaws, like the woman who was quite a bit older or any of the obese people. One of my least favorite seasons was when they had Robert Hesse on (before his surgery) and they knew they were casting someone that was very obese, yet humiliated him by having rewards that he could not participate in. Like the day trip to Catalina Island in the copter that he was too big to go on so he had to go alone on the ferry... by the time he got there no time to explore the island, just turn around and come home. Or the horrible group tricycle challenge Plus calling the women cows etc. He seems much less about that now, and he's had some decent sized contestants.

                                                                1. re: Firegoat

Remember when he had those rumored marital issues and his wife and family showed up in a bunch of episodes?

Anyone but Melanie please. She just GRATES. I know a chef needs confidence but she seems to have an excess. I think Joy and Rochelle will be the final two because they're both young and easily trainable. Rochelle, in particular, has stepped up since she's a caterer not a line cook like the rest. Ramsay might see that as a chance to not have to retrain some bad habits. Production obviously liked something about Jason to bring him back another season, but it didn't get Robert Hesse the win when he came back, so who knows?

Even if someone can cook the socks off everybody else, who's gonna just hand then the keys to the kitchen of a "high end" restaurant?? How much management experience can a 20-something even have?

Scott and Jason in the finale. I'm shocked but not unhappy. Scott was always good in the reward challenges and then stepped up at the pass. Jason was steady but his screaming gets annoying. Melanie needed to take her trashy ass home. Rochelle was sweet, but ultimately not experienced enough. I think Scott will win. He's easier to market?

While he may be picky (construed by competitors as annoying), that's what you want in a head chef. And he's got class. Beautiful family. Yes, I agree he's easier to market. Jason is a good chef, but he needs to grow up. This is for the 'Big Time.'
