_Italy For the Gourmet Traveler_ is now available. I've got it, and I can strongly recommend it.

  1. Sid: I see that this is a new edition. The last "new" edition did not contain all that much that was actually new; is this one substantially updated? I adore his books! Thanks! e

It is updated. Substantially? maybe not. Yet still worth having just to be up to date. Anice Stelleto has been added in Venice. And there are other additions

Ive bought a new edition each time it has been issued but it never has been substantially updated (in the sense that he re-did his initial great research) Its good to see that it is still in print, but maybe Mr. Plotkin will come around and talk about this new version.

Jen, it's got an April 2014 pub date, this 5th edition. The pub site and amazon say nothing of the amount or type of updating (last edition was 2010).http://www.kylebooks.com/display.asp?...

      2. I am wondering the same thing as erica.

        1. That's good to hear. I just bought it.

          1. Fred Plotkin recently spoke at the Oxford Literature Festival and some his observations about changing food standards in Italy are on YouTube. I particularly share his concern about the "banalization of taste" in Italy in a misguided attempt to judge Italy and its culinary tradition but standards that are inappropriate to its uniqueness
