Bonita springs, Florida
Staying at the Hyatt with our two teenagers for 3 nights. Looking for moderately priced/upscale fun restaurants (non-chains). Willing to drive to Naples for an evening. Would like at least one place with a nice view.
One of my favorite restaurants in the Ft. Myers to Naples area is Wyld's Cafe, in Bonita Springs on Bonita Beach road, south side, west of 41/Tamiami. Looks like nothing from the outside, you enter from the parking area behind, but when you get inside it is quite nice. Really good food -- nice seafood, good meat dishes. Prices very reasonable for the quality of food and service (less than Naples prices). If they have their meatloaf on special, have one of the teenagers order it -- very tender, huge portion, amazing gravy.
Just a bit to the west is A Table Apart -- another find. Brighter lighting, more casual, a bit louder. Big portions and excellent food but the prices a bit higher than Wyld's. When I last had it, their rack of lamb was the whole rack -- eight little chops, and their pork chop is big and gorgeous.
Gumbo Limbo at the Ritz has great gulf views and is more moderately priced than their other restaurants, especially if you stick to apps and sandwiches. You may not want to stay in the hotel but Tarpon Bay at the Hyatt has excellent seafood and a nice view of their lake if you sit on the outside porch. Tierney's Tavern inside the Bay House is a fun place with moderate prices. The Bay House has nice views but is pricier. A great place to go for lunch is Dock's on the Beach right on the gulf at the end of Bonita Beach Road and serves excellent grouper sandwiches. Make sure to sit upstairs.
