Anniversary dinner recommendations
Wife and I don't dine in DC often, but since our anniversary is coming up, we'd like to try something new. We enjoy good food, usually with bold and interesting flavors. Not a big fan of dishes that are very simple and "highlight the natural flavors." Some of the restaurants we have enjoyed in the past are Rasika, Charleston (B'more), and Idylwood Grill (Falls Church). We would like to go to Komi but they're already booked. We are thinking about going to CityZen. We don't drink wine, and open to a tasting menu or a la carte, budgeting under $125pp. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
I would go to the Source. Since you seem to like asian fusion flavors and bold flavors I would highly recommend this restaurant. Also similarly high end compared to some of the other places you mentioned. Tell them you will be celebrating your anniversary and I don't think you'll be disappointed.
I think CityZen is a good choice. Similar quality and priced restaurants include Marcel's, Fiola and Fiola Mare, and Restaurant Eve. If you like Japanese, then I would also suggest Sushi Taro's Omakase bar.
It's funny that you mentioned Idylwood Grill. It's not In the same class as the other restaurants and I'm not sure what to make of it. In VA, you should check out L'Auberge chez Francois.
Not sure if it's the best suggestion for an anniversary, esp. as they don't take reservations, but I suggest considering Rose's Luxury. I had an absolutely fantastic meal there recently and I think it meets your requirements for bold and interesting flavors.
FWIW, I like City Zen and Fiola (although you should look at their menu to see if it interests you), I don't think Eve is quite as good, and I don't like L'Auberge Chez Francois at all.
CityZen is good, I also highly recommend Marcel's (we go for every anniversary). The omakase at Sushi Taro is very special. Minibar is also very special if you can get a seat. 2941 in Falls Church is very nice and has a gorgeous view.
