Fire and Blood/GOT/Beer Belly

Tried at least several of the Ommegang "Fire and Blood" House Targaryen ales last night at Beer Belly. In the vein of a Chimay red, less sweet, and nice bite too. Indeed it had some ancho chile and was also brewed with rye and spelt. The other Ommegang beers are also quite good if you ask me and my wolf pack.

I believe there have been other GOT events around town sponsored by Ommegang including one at Plan Check with a GOT burger. There's an event tomorrow night at the Surly Goat.

Another reminder that...wait for it...BB has the best buffalo wings in town...fried crisp, classic flavor hot buffalo sauce and then a blue cheese crumble throughout the bowl of wings...happy hour 6 for $5.

This is just the place to be drunk enough to go for a fried oreo or twinkie plate too.

Also a nice default place to go before the Wiltern several blocks away...go willie!

I had the Abbey Ale at Baby Blues BBQ. My brother and I both liked it.

We were lucky enough to score a keg of Rare Vos for my son's kegerator. It just kept getting better until sadly it was gone.

    2. Mmm, I really like Chimay.... I've been trying to get my beer obsessed guy down to beer belly for ages....will keep trying...

            I didn't notice Kevin sorry.

I'm generally not a fan of gouze, lambics or wheat beers.

I do agree with my fellow hounds and you that the trappist rochefort and westvlateren beers are really special.

JAB-where you do source your kegs? We have gotten some unusual ones through Mel and Roses and they are very nice about delivering.

The Surly Goat is actually a cool spot and hope you can try this Fire and Blood. Quite tasty and potent.

I love that sour shit. I must be one of the very very very few.

Count me in. Had a Russian River sour at that Temecula spot.

                1. re: JAB

Supplication is my favorite from Russian River. Consecration is great too.

I'm sad that on the Belgian hoppy american style side that I missed out on the special PTY days.

                  1. re: kevin

I had a Sanctification last weekend followed by a Blind Pig. As much of a beer geek as I am, PTY is just too much of a hassle for me.

did you go to the OC brew ho ho last december? we had a great time and a ton of beers for the money...and the viking food truck to sop up the alcohol.

No, the last one that I went to was in Long Beach a few years ago.

Nah.... Kevin you have plenty of company...

You just need to go to a sour festival. : ]
                  Which sell out these days.

I would even consider it trendy in the right circles.

                3. re: jessejames

I'm down in OC. O'Shea Brewing Company in Laguna Niguel is a good spot for kegs.

Good to know. Worth a trip for something special. Rare Vos is a terrific score. Hope you guys enjoy that kegerator this weekend.

            2. re: Dirtywextraolives

Which variety of Chimay is your favorite? I like White, then Blue.

                1. re: Tripeler

allagash curieux is a little bit better if you get the chance.

or trappist rochefort 8, or 10.

                2. I'll have to give those wings a go next time I'm there. I tend to go for the pork belly chips.

Try the buffalo flavor ones The volcano ones not as good. I liked the pork belly chips too. The wings kick the most ass there tho for me.
