Palermo street food recommendations?

Hi all,

What would your Palermo street food recommendations be and where are the very best places to try them? I realise the markets are usually the place to head but specific recommendations would be wonderful. I'll be filming a TV show about street food there in May so would be grateful for any tips!

Thanks so much,

    1. well the night market in the vucceria is a blast and you get everything from grilled meats ( including the Stiggiole, intestines wrapped around a green onion-- REALLY GOOD) to boiled octopus, and fried veggies.
normal street food which i am sure you have seen on everyone's TV show-- panelle, arancine, in the various shapes, which are different fillings.... i have been going to sicily for 7 years now-- and this year for the first time had a spitino, a ragu filled fried sandwich. the bars are filled with various snacks--- the past few times i have been- i have not seen the man with the mystery meat basket in front of the Capo market-- but the spleen sandwich guys are always out-- at night--- and the focciaccia guys are around with their little carts!

          1. Ciao Caroline and Judy! Judy is right on about Palermo. Nowadays you can find the mystery meat basket, Frittola, in Vucciria at night. Also, while in the market (around this season) get yourself a boiled artichoke! Also, in the champanheria area of Palermo I always get mangia e bevi, the pancetta wrapped scallions.
