casual gems / dives

The last thread on dives with good food is from 2010, so I thought I'd ask for a more recent perspective.

Despite loving good food, we really like casual places. Hole in the walls/dives/ places where you don't really need to make a reservation or wear a dress.

Buffa's is one i keep seeing on the boards, as is the Joint.

Any others? We like all food, but tend to just get one or two things to share (not big on app, entree, dessert).

Thank you :)

  1. Not dives, but for casual settings with food made with love and care, check out Toups Meatery, Crescent Pie and Sausage and Three Muses.

Agreed! A very underrated cocktail program, lot of inhouse ingredients (fig/blueberry Amaro, various herbed syrups, etc.).

Also love High Hat. Like Sanglier's suggestions, it's in the casual, but definitely not a dive, category.

Agreed. It is clearly a "casual gem."

        2. I really like the tacos and 2 for 1 margaritas as Saritas on Freret. It's a bit of a dive, but cheap and tasty.

Also, I recently discovered (see post from yesterday) Taste of India on Cleary. It's definitely a dive, but they had super yummy and cheap Indian food.

Oops, apparently it's called Flavors of India.
