sneaking in canned clams into tuna casserole?

I'm making your basic tuna casserole tonight with a basic béchamel white sauce.
I found a tin of small clams in the cupboard. SO does really 'dig' clams so I don't use them. What's your opinion about just adding the rinsed tiny clam pieces into the casserole?
I've never eaten tuna and clams together.
She loves tuna casserole and I wouldn't want to major screw up dinner like I did last night.

  1. I wouldn't unless you made two separate casseroles. The texture is too different. I wouldn't want to mess with something she loves.

    1. canned clams are like little rubber bands. i wouldn't do anything but make clam-cakes with them. knowing your s/o hates them, why try "sneaking" them into dinner?

I agree. Plus I think canned clams taste like the can.

You're all right. I'll give the canned clams away. I used to be able to buy whole canned clams and even they were crap.
I do have a nice thing going on right now to top the casserole in the oven. I think.
Very thin slices of two day old baguette that I drizzled OO on and sprinkled a little garlic powder on. When they are crispy I'll lay them on top of the finished casserole just before serving.

You could add them to canned clam chowder to beef (clam?) it up a little.

I often do that for Campbell's Chunky New England Clam Chowder. Drain the clams, add them, paprika and lobster base.

      2. Hard to pass off as Kosher.

Try feeding to a cat. Is there another best use???

        1. I would do it, depending on the tuna. I think that canned clams are underrated.

Well, I take that back after thinking about it. I like to keep fish and shellfish separate. I may be in the minority on that....

          2. sounds like a really bad idea to me
