Howard's Subway in Linthicum--RIP

  • 3

Went there for a cocktail and a sandwich before hopping a flight last Friday. It was locked up tight at mid-day. I guess they found a buyer.

Howard converted the basement of his home into a bar when he got out of the service in 1946. The decor was vintage rec-room and it was a very clean, comfortable, friendly place to relax and have a drink.

Farewell to another great neighborhood institution.

  1. It may re-open. I called and when I asked about a buyer, all the lady would say was "all I can say is we are closed."

    Hopefully negotiations are ongoing.

I was lucky to have discovered Howard's last year and went several times. Very sad when I first read they would close.

Yeah, she told me about a year ago they were looking to sell. I always liked Howard's from the first time I set foot in there about 12 years ago. I hope the buyer keeps it going, but I suspect the property is too valuable to make it profitable. Ah, well....seems like that's what happens to all the great little joints eventually.
