Italian Buttercream Frosting Cakes near Pasadena?

Now my 2 favorite bakeries have closed. The first was the Bees Knees on Colorado .. between Eagle Rock and Pasadena. They used an Italian Buttercream frosting that was not sweet but more heavy and creamy. When they closed I found another bakery in Sierra Madre called Wildflour Baking Co. It's birthday time of the year in our family and I couldn't believe that they have been sold and no longer feature this type of frosting. I don't like sweet sugary icing / frosting. I also loved their caramel buttercream filling with a chocolate frosting cake. Where do I find something similar?

  1. Try Federico's Italian Bakery in Pas.

    1. There's an Italian bakery in Eagle Rock proper, though I can't for the life of me remember its name. It may just be Italian Bakery, in fact. In any event, you might want to check it out.

I think it's Eagle Rock Italian Bakery, but I can't find a real website for it.

          Try the google:

I did. Hence the "can't find a real website" comment; no information about their offerings, hours, etc. Just the street address and phone number (better than nothing of course, but was hoping for some sort of menu) and some rotating photos.

That's the place. I go there when I'm in the neighborhood. It's at 1726 Colorado Blvd. It's been there long enough that it doesn't need a real website.

      2. I LOVED Bees Knees Bakery too, so I feel your pain and had to hunt for a new bakery! Heirloom Bakery in South Pasadena makes good cakes too, I've ordered a dark chocolate birthday cake with vanilla bean buttercream frosting -- it was FABULOUS, everyone loved it! The cake was rich and moist but the cake and frosting weren't too sweet, which is hard to find! I don't know if you would consider theirs to be Italian buttercream, but give it a try.
