New restaurants with Marco Pierre White's name on them

Jay Rayner's column in today's Observer notes that MPW has signed a deal to put his name to 50 new restaurants owned by Sanguine Hospitality. First one seems to be scheduled for Manchester next year. Jay comments "It's not clear why Manchester deserves this".

Now then, I've eaten at the MPW steakhouse in Chester, which is in the Doubletree owned by Sanguine and have to agree with Jay's comments. Manchester doesnt deserve this. Nowhere deserves this. It'll be corporate shite - don't go.

  1. I just hate how these chefs spread themselves so thin once they are a 'name.' It isn't enough that he has his moniker on stock cubes??

    1. I always find it amusing when the likes of William Sitwell writes articles or fronts TV shows criticising the Michelin Guide and always rolls out MPW as a great example of a chef who has turned his back on Michelin.

I know little about Sitwell's ability as a food critic, but on TV, he comes across as a pretentious git.

1999 seems to be the year for "returning" your three stars. MPW did it . And Nico Landenis did it.

I think MPW and his book White Heat accelerated my interest in food. I sadly never ate at Harvey's (too poor) and sadly never wanted to eat at his later restaurants.

But you never know he may do a Kate Bush and do an about turn and do a comeback.
