If you like Italian then Mama D's Italian Kitchen http://www.mamadsnewport.com/ would fit the bill very well.

Thanks for the rec. Saw an old post on them and wasn't sure whether still worth it.

I like red sauce Italian and I like Alejo's in Westchester - just to give you something to gauge my recommendation on. I had the spaghetti and meatball and I liked it. But unless you like that type of Italian you are probably better off with JAB Sabatino's recommendation below. Hope you will come back and report on wherever you end up.

So...we ended up going to...Gulliver's in Irvine! :( My cousin, the birthday girl, wanted to go there for old times sake. She used to go there in her 20's. I look forward to using the recs another time.

LOL, my mom loves that place. They certainly have decent food and it is a well-run spot.

Sabatino's. They specialize in sausage. Anything with sausage. Try the stuffed pepper.

Another for Sabatino's. The best sausage I've ever had.

Same here. That pork sausage with cheese inside is incredible.

Try True Food Kitchen - Fashion Island has a lot of great restos, Tommy Bahamas, etc.

Fashion Island has a few good (not great) restaurants, and I really must disagree re True Food...it's among the worst, and Tommy Bahama is not much better. IMHO, the better spots include Fleming's, Gulfstream, R + D Kitchen, Red O and Fig & Olive...all of which are pretty goog, but there really is nothing outstanding in Fashion Island.

Nothing outstanding, in Fashion Island, but I myself quite like True Food--especially compared to R + D, Fleming's, and Gulfstream. To each their own I guess.

                I don't know Garlic Jo's

For background, I have eaten great Cajun food at the festivals in Lafayette, Louisiana.

Jack Shrimp fits into the "authentic" Cajun category.

So there you go - Just my opinions,

                Sincerely, GJ

Gypsy, I thought you were going to say my recs were terrible since you had the real Cajun goods in Louisiana. :)

                    Hey, Kevin

We are friends (in the Internet kind of way),

I would never diss any any of your recommendations, unless I have personal experience that I need to report.

Love The Crab Cooker and had a couple quirky but good meals at The Chicken Coop.
