KAN ZAMAN Restaurant

Walking around Chinatown, I saw this new (?) restaurant on Nuuanu Street. Cuisine is Moroccan and Lebanese. Any of you CH-ers tried this place? Might be interesting. Got good reviews in Yelp.

    1. Was there yesterday for lunch with friends on the deck in the courtyard. We had variations of their kebab sandwiches which consists of a kebab with sauce and cheese on a pita that is served with a large salad. Food was delicious, even to the friend who had no experience with middle eastern food.

Kebab with cheese? Not very authentic.

The kebab didn't have the cheese. The pita had the meat from the kebab, greens, sprinkles of feta and chopped olive and a sauce. You were thinking cheddar?

Is it like gyros -- typical mid-eastern sandwich? Then the sauce should be tajiki sauce, I suppose.

I really don't know what the sauce was; it was not at all like the tajiki sauce I make which is basically thick yogurt and chopped cucumbers.

      2. Reposting from November visit:

Tried it after walking around First Night. Chicken Tagine was two chicken thighs braised in a delicious sauce flavored with lemon and green olives. Served covered with french fries...kind of an odd presentation. Fries were good, but the Vegetable Couscous topped with chunks of potato, squash, zucchini, garbanzos was a better accompaniment. Would have been better (for us) served family style to share both than as individual entrees as our appetites were not huge...side orders of couscous, rice, etc would have been extra.
