koko head cafe- first CH report (?)

yelpers are all over this place
but no reports here
tasty, but a bit salty IMO
and portions are SMALL
local boys could spend 25 bucks here and still be hungry

open only 7-2:30
20 minute wait at 11:30 am on kuhio day

  1. Thanks for the report.

    What dishes did you try?

Seems like it does fill an interesting niche, though. Gourmet/foodie, cheffed-up, creative breakfast. With lots of local ingredients.

    1. re: kathryn

i had 2 eggs, hash browns, toast, and house made pastrami
      thinnest bread ever
skinnier than that japanese sandwich bread
and only one slice, cut in half
3 slices of pastrami, 1 in by 3 in, about 3/16 in thick
hash browns 2 in by 3 in by 3 in triangle, less than 1 in thick

      was tasty, a bit salty

check twitter for today's picture of breakfast bruschetta
6 bucks! and look at the size of the strawberry to tell how big the portion is

    2. Sunday's wait 1 hour. We tried their take on congee, chicken dumplings, bibimbap and banana bread. Small portions, but very creatively done. The congee had, for example, condiments which included croutons that were flavored with chili and cinnamom. The banana bread, while no match for Julia's Banana Bread in texture and taste, contained bits of keffir lime leaves which gave it a nice twist. I would probably go back if there wasn't such a long wait.
