BBQ Caterer needed in Orinda in May, 65-80 people

rcspott Mar 26, 2014 03:40 PM

We are a couple of families having a college graduation party in May. Looking to have a caterer set up and serve a great spread of BBQ for 65-80 people. Brisket, Hot Links, Ribs and Chicken with all the sides. We're looking for the real deal. Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated.

Look into Bo's in Lafayette. Close, really tasty and your neck of the woods. (Not cheap)

Bo's lease is up 7/31 and will not be renewed:

I have not used Stephanie Perry as a caterer, but when she had her place in San Leandro the spareribs were in my all-time top three (with Vic & Betty's and Flint's in its heyday).

Smokehouse 10, Beaver Creek and Slow Hand all get positive reviews on this board and offer catering. The first two are also competition teams, and Dave Tendick of Smokehouse 10 has appeared on BBQ Pitmasters.

I've never heard anything good about Bo's from BBQ people I trust, so I've stayed away.

I was a big fan of Bo's when I lived in Lafayette. However that was nearly 20 years ago (? - wow).

I've eaten at Bo's many times. They've been inconsistent at times, but I'd still rate them much higher than Slow Hand or Smokehouse 10. And even though Bo's is closing, they do still cater.

The ribs at Slow Hand are quite good, but there's little smoke ring or smoke flavor in the brisket and pork. Smokehouse 10 was out of ribs when I went, so maybe those rock, but the meat was not smoky at all. They wouldn't win any competitions with the meat I had.

Take a look at Texas Back 40 or Kinder's BBQ. I've used both for catering large parties in central Contra Costa County and was very pleased with both.
