Truffle oil...619 calories per tablespoon??!!

I'm normally not one to count calories...but 619 per tablespoon?! This is a typo, right? That's more than a Big Mac! Isn't it just EVOO?

And before anyone gets all "Holier than thou"...YES, I'm aware that truffle oil is very "90's" and that it isn't actually made from truffles.

Serving size two spoonful?? At least they gave the volume of 15 ml which is half an ounce. That seems like a lot of oil as a serving

They use the term spoonful but you're right 15ml/.5oz= 1 Tbs

        2. re: scubadoo97

Not really. People usually use a lot more, actually, especially when using oils as a flavouring.

      1. I think it's a typo likely in the conversion from kjoules to kcal.

        1. It's hard to read, but the bottle is 100 ml, right?

The label says 68 g fat per serving - that and the calorie count would be about right for 100 ml of oil.

At the very least, 68 g of olive oil is going to be a lot more than 1 tablespoon.

I didn't even see that and when I just did cracked up laughing!

I came back to this thread like 4 times last night and kept laughing!

            2. Loved the cat bomb - wouldn't have noticed it above poster didn't mention it.

The label is all kinds of wrong . . . .

              Serving size - 2 spoonfuls - 15ml (1 Tbs)
Amount per container - about seven???????
              Calories 619????????
              Total Fat 68g???????

              In general -
              1 Tbs fat = 14g
              1 g fat = 9 calories

              1 Tbs fat = 126 calories

Thank you! I don't think there is any food on Earth THAT calorie I can go back to eating my popcorn without worrying about consuming my daily caloric intake in one sitting.
