Mrs Beas Chicken and Waffle - La Habra, CA

I was driving and all of a sudden I see this sign that says "chicken and waffles" so I huck a quick u-turn and scratch my original dining plans and decide to give it a try.
The restaurant is pretty nice, open concept with one big dining room. The menu consists of mostly fried chicken and a bunch of different waffle offerings. House special, corn, jalapeno cheddar, buttermilk, birthday cake, sweet potato and I can't remember the last one. They also have other items like gumbo, catfish, meatloaf and the usual southern sides.
I ordered the three jumbo wings and house waffle and a side of macaroni and cheese and red beans and rice. Damn good, mostly everything was very good. The only dish that was just okay was the mac and cheese. Red beans and rice was amazing. The waffle had warm fall spices of cinnamon and nutmeg and I think allspice. My dining companions had the catfish with grits and collard greens which were damn tasty as well. The grits especially had great flavor and did not need any other seasoning.
My only complaint is that the food did take a while to come out because they cook everything to order.
This pretty much sums it up. The food was very good. We liked the chicken and waffles as well. The greens were a tad salty but thoroughly enjoyable. The mac n cheese was just ok as you mentioned.
Very friendly service but it did take quite a while for the food to emerge from the kitchen. Just something to keep in mind if you're with little kids like we were.
We have been enjoying Mrs. Bea's as well. Did not care for the greens or mac and cheese, but really enjoyed the gumbo and cheese grits as well as the chicken and waffles.
Found most of the food to be on the salty side for us, but very tasty.
