  1. Never been, but have been trying to decide between lunching there or ABaC (also never been) .. If I end up going, I'll let you know

    1. The wife and I were in Barcelona last week and found Cinc Sentits unexciting, but reasonably priced. A dinner a Abac was considerably better, but still not mind blowing. We tried all the Albert Adria places and liked 41 degrees and Pakta, but didn't care for Tickets. All are too gimmicky for me. Probably our favorites of the week were two lunches at the Cal Pep counter and a very nice meal at Ca l'Isidre, very similar to Viridiana in Madrid. Morning coffee and xixos (donuts) at Pinotxo Bar at the Boqueria market were great! Last year we had much better modern Spanish food in Madrid and San Sebastian, but also found the more traditional meals there generally more flavorful.

Thanks, as it turns out, we went with ABaC and I have to say our meal was fantastic, except for one course which was just a fail and out of step with the other courses, which was a bit odd. But we did have a great time, lovely service, and the sommelier did a great job with interesting pairings by the glass.
I'm back in Barcelona next week, and Cal Pep was one of the places I was looking forward to. I'm also curious about Pakta so

      2. Presently (first day, first time, first meal) in Barcelona and enjoyed a beautiful meal with wine pairings and a chat with chef at Hisop. Highly recommend. Elegant, quiet surroundings and exquisite food. Excellent service.
