Anything Chowish between Albuquerque and Roswell (maybe via Socorro)?

Need to drive to Roswell. Are there any really good places to have lunch in Roswell or on the way, or any other kind of interesting food-related sites to visit? I'm especially thinking of farms or stands where we might be able to pick up some pastured meat or eggs, raw milk, nice baked goods, interesting produce.

We're thinking of coming back through Socorro even though it's longer, just to do a stop at Pollo Real, so any recommendations in that loop would be most welcome.

(Keep hoping I'll have a legitimate excuse to drive through Pie Town one day, but it never happens...)

  1. Although I haven't been personally, I've heard a number of positive things said about the pizza at Cafe Rio in Ruidoso. Ruidoso in general seems to have some interesting stuff going in, maybe worth driving a little bit out of your way.

I'm afraid I have no idea about farm stands and the like, sorry. Curious what others have to say...

Thanks, finlero. This does not seem to be a produce stand/organic farm route. Maybe the aliens were seeking relief from a vegetation-rich planet. Hoping to get out of the trip altogether, but if I can't I'll post on anything I find.

    2. We really enjoyed tamales at Frank & Lupe's El Sombrero, 210 Mesquite, Socorro, 505-835-3945 & green chile cheeseburgers at Manny's Buckhorn Tavern, 68 U.S. Highway 380, 575-835-4423, San Antonio. Ruidoso was pretty mediocre except for fantastic breakfast at Tina’s Café, 522 Sudderth, 575-257-8930.

      1. In Socorro is the Manzanares Coffee shop, with excellent coffee but lunchy type foods, too. Sandwiches, pastries. Nice place to relax for a bit.

        1. The Socorro Grill is very good. Nice looking room, good service, good menu. The salmon sandwich was excellent. We eat there once a year without fail.
