East End private room for casual birthday

I could have sworn there was a recent thread on this topic so if some just wants to link me to it (I did search!) that itself would be helpful...
A friend is looking to throw a very casual party, basically just looking for a space a group of 30-50 can use and spend decent money on drinks and snacks without paying extra fees etc. A hold fee in the form of a guaranteed minimum bill would be fine, for example.
By east end I mean old city of Toronto from DVP to Vic Park, south of Eglinton or so :) But central suggestions are also fine.

  1. What day of the week? does it have to be private or could it be just a section of a room?

It is a Saturday night, and I don't think it has to be private...But in the thread I imagined I saw, there seemed to be a few places with private upstair rooms etc.

    2. Monk's Hearth on Yonge south of Eglinton has an upstairs section that is relatively separate. I had an event there recently and it was well serviced, with no reservation fee.

I've been hearing rumblings that they've got issues with inventory and cash flow.

      2. this is a bit further east, but the venue is beautiful right on the lake/bluffs and the staff are great. as for the food, it's up and down but the venue is hard to beat and they sometimes let you bring some of your own stuff in. it's a real gem.

Always forget about this place but the park is a childhood family favourite, will have to take my kids sometime if it doesn't work for this event! Thanks :)

        2. Prohibition at Queen & Broadview has an area that can be reserved for a party and they are flexible about billing options.

Murphy's Law has various different spaces that can be reserved for a group.

The upstairs room at Joy Bistro.

Perfect, these are the ones I had vaguely in mind (minus the actual names etc).

Thanks everyone, this is a good reference for future events as well. My friend ended up booking Murphy's Law.

            2. Upstairs patio at Globe Bistro (Broadview & Danforth) holds 50.

And they do a great job. Good space, good service, very little drop off between the restaurant food and the party food, which is often a problem with these things.

Looks like two others beat me to to my suggestion! The patio may not be open if your event is happening soon, but the upstairs room holds around 50, as estufarian mentioned.

                1. Table 17 also has a private dining room. They are in Leslieville. www.table17.ca/‎

                  1. Thanks everyone for your tips, much appreciated :)

I'd go for either Table 17 (private room) or Globe Bistro (private room) - we had our office party at the latter last year and the catering was superb. Oyster bar...yum
