Where to go in Cyrpus to avoid the masses and eat good food?
I will be travelling to Cyprus in September for a wedding in Nicosia. We are going to spend an extra 4 or 5 days in Greek Cyprus afterwards and are wondering where to base ourselves? Basically, we would like to avoid the package holiday feel and the clubbing and base oursevles somewhere where we can get out and explore and have great food.
Any advice on locations, accomodation, restaurants, etc. would be much appreciated!
I always stay in the Paphos area (from which you can gather I have no problem being in a tourist area - not least as I'm a tourist). There are less developed places in the region, such as Latsi. But, to get away from tourists as much as possible, you need to find a base in one of the many villages, perhaps one in the Troodos.
As for restaurants, you may find this website helpful - http://www.cyprus-eating.com/. On the other hand, you may want to discount the site as most reviews will have been posted by tourists so that may suggest that the restaurants, good as they may be, are perhaps places you would want to avoid. I have the same user name there as here, so you may come across my reviews from our last fortnight there in 2010.
Hi folks, just a last cry for help. I appreciate the reply Harters, but I really don't want to stay somewhere that's mobbed with tourists.
We are considering maybe heading to the mountains or perhaps some of the smaller villages in the wine country. I would be really grateful for a steer!
