Manhattan with the Girlfriend

Hey guys,

I am a born and raised New Yorker. I know that the worlds greatest pizza is Di Fara in Midwood and nothing beats Mr. Softee. I grew up with my friends frequenting small, delicious neighborhood joints. Now, I live up in Ridgefield CT. I am going to visit Manhattan with her in a week or two. She wants delicious pizza but we won't have enough time to go all the way out to Di Fara. If you could recommend some delicious BUT NOT TOURISTY pizza places in Manhattan, that would be great. Please no Lombardi's, Johns of Bleecker Street, etc. Also, some coffee shop recommendations and cool art galleries would be good.

Thanks

  1. Are you eating pizza for lunch or dinner? Are you looking for more of a traditional pie or creative toppings? Thin crust, Neapolitan, or Sicilian? Are you driving in, would you consider an outerborough pizzeria?

Go to Motorino, then Chikalicious for dessert and coffee or Abraco for espresso

      1. Well, for pizza and galleries, the most obvious choice is Co. in Chelsea and then gallery-hopping immediately afterward. You could also walk down the High Line to Blue Bottle for some great coffee. Sounds like a perfect date to me.

agreed. i'd only add to grab a PB&J bar from Billy's on the way to High Line.

        2. For pizza:
          Keste
          Motorino
          Co

              1. There are now quite a few small art galleries on the les who were priced out of chelsea.
Cafe grumpy has wonderful coffee on the les (i love their cortado)

Also pushcart coffee, (a distant second choice) they brew sumptown beans

                1. Check out Pala on Allen Street. Delicious pizza (and other food), lovely spot.

I always eat at Pala when I am in the city. Great spot for a date too. There woodfired GF pizza does not get enough attention!
