Izakaya Kou in the Fillmore [San Francisco]

I'm thinking of proposing this to a group after a movie at the Kabuki.

Does anyone know what the happy hour specials are?

They don't answer their phone, boo.

  1. I have been interested in learning about this place. I lived in that building for four years and in that time, it has been so many mediocre Korean restaurants and with the addition of SBP, there is a distinct possibility of a decent restaurant being added to the 'hood - but maybe it is not the case...

    Check back if/when you go!

    1. HH, tuesdays-fridays, 5:30-7. specials not listed on menu.
      hours 5:30-11, 1 a.m. on fri, sat.

Enjoyed the braised pork belly (melt in your mouth), gindara (silky), tempura kalbi (beef version of agedashi tofu). Okonomiyaki was huge (more like a torte or quiche than a pancake) but undercooked. Ramen was perfectly chewy and al dente. Seasoning was well balanced and not overdone.

Thanks, that sounds very positive. Was this for dinner or happy hour?

Dinner (same menu afaik except for drink specials)

Would you happen to know if the happy hour special is on drinks only or is food discounted too?

                1. re: Melanie Wong

they did show me a one page sheet with HH specials, so I think there is a discount on food, although at the time I was focused on their "order one bottle, get one bottle for $1" drink specials so wasn't really paying attention to the food side, sorry!

                  1. re: Melanie Wong

A few snack dishes are discounted at happy hour. You might be able to scrape together a light supper from them.

                      What did you like?

Thanks to you both for the info. I'm thinking that gathering at 6pm or so for happy hour and segueing into dinner might be the ticket here.

                      1. re: Melanie Wong

I just looked at the menu, didn't try anything. People there seemed to be having a good time.

Next time i would just request it "well-done"
I also ordered salmon skin tempura but it was really salmon tempura, rather than just the skin
Also had some sashimi which was generously portioned
The sake I tried was listed as a nama but that was another misnomer

            2. Went back. Ramen was way too soft and toppings were burnt. Gindara watery for some reason. Uni in the case looked very scary. Buta kakuni still good but I don't think I will return.
