Top New Places in Last 6 Months

I am coming to NYC for a week in April and would like to learn about the top new places (restaurants & bars) that have opened in the new year as I spent Xmas in the city. I am interested in must-not-miss new cocktail bars and foodie-type restaurants in Manhattan and Brooklyn. Any and all recommendations would be much appreciated.

  1. Empire Diner opened in January. Gato opened last week. Fung Tu opened late 2013.

    1. Do you read Eater.com?

Also for cocktails, Burning Waters Sweetwater Social, and Nitecap are new. Nitecap literally is in soft opening this week.

      1. Thank you Kathryn and Coasts for the replies.

        1. The Gander just opened and is quite good. So is All'onda, but it's tough to reserve on short notice, unless you are willing to eat early or late.

+1 for The Gander, was very happy with our meal there

          2. Narcissa is quite good.

Obviously, by limiting yourself to "must-not-miss" and "new", you are excluding must-not-miss and old. You are also risking crowds, noise and that all-important self-absorbed "scene". That said, we ate an early (6:30) dinner at Narcissa and quite enjoyed it.

            1. Gotham West Market worth mentioning

              1. I'd say All'Onda, Narcissa, and The Clam (three places I've been to and enjoyed) are worth a visit for dinner. I also just came from Black Crescent, a newly opened cocktail bar in the LES, and had a delicious drink (the Confederate Officer) there as well. I believe former Booker & Dax employees opened the spot.

Other places that are newly opened and "trending" that I can recall from the top of my head: The Gander, Gato, General Assembly, and Bar Bolonat. I had a few friends visit Chicane last week as well, and feedback was mostly positive.
