Bon Jovi's Soul Kitchen now Tops in Red Bank...

on Tripadvisor.com:

Don't know if this says more about the sorry state of the Red Bank restaurant scene, or the lack of integrity of the on-line editorial process at trip advisor.

  1. PS. The Cheese Cave is number 2 which is interesting because they don't really cook anything...

    1. 11 reviews and it's the number one spot?

Tripadvisor has helped me but it will literally block reviews. I have contacted them and you get nowhere. Take that for what it is worth.

Anyway, is this spot any good?

Are you familiar with its concept? I've attempted to dine here twice, the first time there was an excessive wait, the second the kitchen was closed. I believe the kitchen closes at 8 or 9pm the latest.

I had time to kill before a movie in Red Bank today so I walked by JBJ out of curiosity. Looks like a converted auto repair shop.

FWIW, the theater on White Street is the only place around showing Grand Budapest Hotel. I heard a manager say they took in $10,000 in ticket sales on Saturday. They are showing it exclusively.

Yes....just wondering if the food is decent.

I recent heard it ranked number one on trip advis........ Oh never-mind. ;-)

        2. Soul kitchen is a decent meal. Been there a few times and always enjoyed my meal.

This is nowhere near the top place in red bank. Both trip advisor and yelp have a comical filtering system for reviews. Yelp is much much worse. You can pay yelp several hundred and they'll filter a bad review for you.

The cheese cave does cook and has some tremendous sandwiches.

          1. We're hounds. What do we care about trip advisor? When I go to a new city I check the local chowhound board not them.

That said. Good for Soul Kitchen! They deserve to get all the good press. And I do love The Cheese Cave including their sandwiches and Mac n Cheese.

*edit* Ate at Soul Kitchen once. Food was not memorable - not bad but I can't even remember what I ate. I give them props for their work is what I meant.

            1. I drove past here again this morning after dropping my son off at school, (when did detention become before school as apposed to staying after school? Why am I being punished by having to get him there at 7:30 instead of 8?....sorry I digress) and I paid particular notice to the hours of operation on their sign.

They only serve dinner from 5-7pm? Anyone know what this is? No wonder each time I've attempted to go there they were closed. lol

A half hour early for detention! That's it? Hell, I used to have to spend a Saturday in lock-up if I didn't wear socks a couple times. A restaurant with a magnanimous, charitable purpose only open two hours a night? Where will it end? No wonder kids today are so damn soft and unruly. . . .
