As for parking in that area, if you get there before 11:30am, or after 2pm, there's tons of decent metered parking. Try it during full lunch hour? Not!
It's definitely open as of today.
I actually drove past the closed (too early) Scoops in Highland Park today to have breakfast at Elsa's Bakery (get the Guatemalan breakfast - simple but stunning good).
Now when I go to Wing Hop Fun I can get teas, herbs - and hit up Scoops right after!
Now I can go buy a cheap samurai sword AND have brown bread ice cream as well!
And a knock-off Louie Vuitton purse.
And a pet turtle

And dried abalone.
My son is six. That is pretty much his definition of awesome. He loves both.
I am a wee bit older than your son, and yet this ALSO fits my definition of awesome. :-)
He told me about that a while and glad to see that his empire is expanding...
Eh not crazy about their ice cream and the buildout is super ghetto (as in there basically was no buildout).
It screams very little commitment to Chinatown and they are hoping to get overflow from Chego.
All the other Scoops are rather spartan as well, including the original on Heliotrope. The interior of the Westside Scoops is rather nice, but Matthew Kang had a lot to do with that, I suspect.
We go to both the one on Heliotrope and the one on York. No big decoration inside either and that's fine with me - I'm there for the ice cream.
They do have that Calder-esque looming mobile composed of oversized taste vins at the Heliotrope original.
Dang - when I've been there, I've been so focused on the ice cream, I haven't looked up!

So, is this a real Scoops, or is this shop a second tier, limited selection, higher-priced joint run by a sub-par food writer?
while I do hang around here a lot, I don't really follow the food gossip and this reference is over my head. Are you talking about scoops westside?
