Hi I'm here for the Culinary conference. It looks like my Saturday afternnoon/evening is free so looking for ideas - best food spots to check out, favourite markets, grocery stores, food concepts. Got a metro pass so can travel. And if anyone wants to join me please do. Visiting from Canada. Conference is at Marriott Downtown. Thx for our ideas.

Purple Pig is close to the Marriott and has great food and drinks.

If you want to go to the Purple Pig, go mid-afternoon or very late. They don't accept reservations, and waits during lunch hours and late afternoon until well into the evening often run two hours or more.

One excellent place to eat only a couple of blocks from the Marriott is Sable, in the Hotel Palomar, and under the direction of Chef Heather Terhune. Terrific (and bargain-priced) food in a small plates format, and great craft cocktails too. And they accept reservations. www.sablechicago.com

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm staying near Rush Street but happy to see all. Took a look at Potash markets on way back. And did stop into Eataly yesterday.
