A few more SGV future openings on their way

Ten Ren's is opening on Main St. in Alhambra. It will be in the plaza where the Smart & Final and Wells Fargo is (between Hidalgo and Cordova), I believe in the largish space formerly occupied by a game store.

In the City of Industry, signage is up for Chicken Papa. This is in the same plaza with Hot Spot Hot Pot, which is just a few doors down. 18246 E. Gale Ave.

And, lastly, while walking around Four Seasons Plaza doing some legwork, a real estate agent was escorting a Chinese couple around explaining some of the differences between the buildings housing Red Pine Hot Pot and Xu Garden, on either side. Work was actively being done, so I'm guessing this will be another restaurant. Four Seasons Plaza only has 8, plus 2 two tea houses, so clearly there is a need.

  1. Did that restroom cafe already open up, where one sits on the John while downing bowls of ramen or is it beef noodle soup or Dan Dan noodles ???????

    Thanks.

kevin, oh yeah, Magic Restroom is up and flushing.

    2. The latter sounds like it might be the Teochew space.

      1. I'm sorry, Jim, but I really don't think *another* Ten Ren really merits a mention on Chowhound.

        Or anywhere, really.

          and what an awkward location

          1. re: ipsedixit

Yeah, ipse, I pushed that item to the final update and weighed its inclusion. I was more intrigued by the location, as blimpbinge notes. Tho I suppose it's big news to Alhambrans seeking a Ten Ren of their own? (I should add, Ten Ren's Tea Time)

Apparently, the Chicken Papa suite used to house a dry cleaner?

              You know what's sad?

We have all these tea and boba shops popping up like acne on a pubescent teenager's face before prom night, and I can't for the life of me find a place to make a decent cup of Yuanyang (鴛鴦).

              Sigh.

I think there's a ten ren tea station in the same plaza as lunasia

so it seems kind of close in proximity to this new one opening up 1 mile away or so

Then another 2 miles into temple city and you have a ten ren tea station on las tunas / temple city blvd

                1. re: blimpbinge

That's right, I should have written: "Alhambrans on the east side of downtown" But, the new one is a Tea Time, the one by Lunasia is a Tea Station. Huge difference :-)

ispe, your remark reminded me of a CH post years ago lamenting the rise of boba drinks displacing other drinks from menus. Not that the poster used the term, but I came up with "These kids and their damn boba drinks" :-)

I can't keep up with all the boba places - at least new to me, particularly out in the RH/CoI/HH area.

                  1. re: JThur01

Is boba hot again or something?

                    1. re: ns1

I don't think boba has ever cooled. There's no sign of hitting the tapioca ceiling.

That and hot pots. Non-hot pot places adding hot pots. There are hot pot places two doors apart in some plazas.
