So there's a TON of mexican in glendale. What's good what's not? <$8 bucks for lunch

been to El Sauz so far, pretty good. Really like the peppers they give with the food.

  1. You would think Glendale would have a long list of taco places but i have not found that to be the case.

El Sauz is my go to place with the Asada tacos and burritos fitting the bill. Has anyone tried the quesadilla?

I also hit up Yuca's Hut which is close for me but isn't Glendale. Love the Conchinta Pibil items.

I'm curious if anyone has tried any of the El Tapatio locations. And I'm apt to try out the Tacos Casita El Carbon soon.

Search yelp for tacos + Glendale, ca and you will find >10 shops with decent ratings. That's a long list in my book.

Tacos Casita El Carbon is very friendly, and their food has great taste. Their carne asada tacos are tougher than shoe leather--but they taste good. Their shrimp tacos are good. Tres Hermanas, on Central, south of Colorado, appears to have changed hands. Their food was very tasty, and doesn't seem to have changed.

"Their carne asada tacos are tougher than shoe leather--but they taste good" - does not compute

How is the shrimp prepared for the tacos? Fried?

I worked in Glendale-adjacent Burbank for several years and never found Mexican that I loved. Casita el Carbon was probably the best. It's true they don't do asada well, but other stuff is pretty good, notably their al pastor and especially the shrimp items--which are grilled, not fried.

I tried El Tapatio a couple of times, thought it was pretty awful. For sit-down table service Cali-mex, Casa de Ramos is not terrible.

I never ventured to El Sauz.

      2. I'll be watching this thread with interest as I've been looking for a great plate of huevos a la Mexicana in Glendale.

Right now, my hopes are leaning towards the revamped Elsa's bakery in Highland Park.

But great tacos can also lead to great eggs... And learning about where I can get a great taco wouldn't be so bad either ; )

        1. La Cabanita on Verdugo in Montrose (right above Glendale) has amazing cochinita tacos with the best side of habanero sauce. Homemade corn tortillas, awesome margaritas, really good red and green salsas, beautiful moles . . . the list goes on. Love the place.

            Don't take it personally.

But La Cabanita is kind of awful.

"Awful" is pretty harsh. I'm not a big fan of Cabanitas tacos but their egg dishes are among the best I've had in LA. All the sauces and salsas are tasty and made with pride. I did think their mole was pretty awful though, I'll give ya that.

Also, lots of people love that place. I've never been.

            2. Tacos Villa Corona?

Close enough to Glendale to count? =P

on my list...atwater definitely close enough.

              2. El Ruby Cafe satisfied when the cemitas poblanas craving hit and I wanted something local. The only time I strayed and tried something different (albondigas) I was sorely disappointed. That said, they have a large menu, most of which I have not tried. In the strip Mall on San Fernando near Los Feliz Blvd.

El Flamin' Taco has tasty tacos, but they only set up their truck at night (Los Feliz Car Wash in Atwater Village).

I've always been curious to try La Azteca on Chevy Chase in Atwater Village. Anyone been? Their specialty is embarradas.
