Willett House, Port Chester...Closed

chowdom Mar 10, 2014 12:18 PM

My sister texted me these pic's today.
Although Willett House was not what
it used to be, it is always sad to see
an old - timer close especially in this way.

apparently, there is more than $500,000 owed in taxes on the Willett House. Very sad.

What's sad? That they closed, or that they're tax deadbeats? Or both?

having seen long time businesses fold b/c of $ issues, to me it was sad that something/ someplace that was perceived as an "institution" of sorts folded in this way. Of course when someone owes $, they owe it, but when you're up to your eyeballs in debt, it's never a good thing. I don't know the particulars of this instance, but generally good people get into debt that they can't dig out of...its sad to see things go that way.

found an article (on-line) that stated they owed about $500,000 dollars BUT most of it was penalties for not paying, the actual tax dollars owed was a very small portion of the total- sounds like poor management more than anything else.

Wow - it is sad to see the old places go.

Only went there once, but it was so expensive that it was forever after referred to as The Wallet House.
