Is Geoduck Safe? Available in Seattle?
Hi. Fellow British Hound and I coming to Seattle in 10 days. We've been reading about the Chinese geoduck ban and the cessation of harvesting. Is geoduck on Seattle menus now? Is it safe? If so, where should we go to try it?
Looks like all of the Puget Sound geoduck is safe. You can Google the Seattle Times article from Jan. 7th for more info.
I'd recommend going to Taylor Shellfish for the best in the city. Either at their Melrose Market location (http://taylormelrose.com/) or at their Pioneer Square location, if it has opened when you visit.
I hadn't heard of this until I saw your post. Sounds like the Chinese are being overly cautious. I would not be concerned about eating geoduck.
I recommend Mashiko for sustainable sushi & Japanese - I haven't been in a while but they often have a geoduck special. Or call around and see which sushi restaurants have it.
Hummm, Let's see, the Chinese find 2,800 dead pigs in the Shanghai water supply and they are worried about Puget Sound geoducks? Consider the source (and pardon the pun).
