  1. I think when "The Chew" debuted, NOBODY thought it would last. I don't get to see it iften (comes on at 1pm) but enjoy it... other than Michael Symon's ANNOYING cackle/laugh. Think "The Kitchen" might have come about cuz of TCs success??

    1. Here's an existing thread you might find interesting http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/929996

The show has grown on me and I now tune in every week

      1. I'd like it better if they lost Katie Lee (Joel). Drony voice and no real food gravitas.

Not that Jeff Mauro is the epitome of "gravitas", mind you, but he does at least have a background

Man, between that drony voice and the goofy sandwich guy, it can be tough to watch!

Katie Lee's voice is annoying. She's pretty, but her voice sounds so contrived - like she's trying to sound California surfer girl. Jeff reminds me of that hyper puppy that needs to be socialized.

I agree. Her voice is what annoys me most about the show.

            2. I record it every week. I think FN finally tapped into how people are using new media for food. Last week they had a What's App segment (yes, the puns run riotous on this show - though I'd think WhatsApp might not appreciate this particular usage) and I like that they introduced apps that I’d never thought I might use.

The hosts: Geoffrey Zakarian is there to lend credence and gravitas. Jeff Mauro is the comedy relief. Both succeed admirably in their roles. Sunny Anderson is informative when she is in a two-shot, but when she’s with the whole group she tends to shout. A lot. Katie Lee lends the home cook’s perspective. It’s actually refreshing.
Sadly, I have to mute my TV every time she’s on. Her voice is so grating I can’t listen to her. I hope Food Network, or maybe Katie herself takes the initiative to get her a voice coach. She just needs to modulate her voice and she’d be really watchable.

I like this take on how people are using TV, food apps and the Internet to enrich their foodie lives.

              1. I've watched for 3 weeks now. 8 am Saturday morning for me, so it's a good time to have some breakfast in front of the tube. The person who really bugs me is Katie Lee. Her voice is beyond grating. An I have never been big on Jeff Mauro. I can't put my finger on why. Sunny and Marcella are the stars here, though I do wish Sunny could quiet down. It might go the way of The Chew and grow into a decent show. Time will tell...

                1. I have seen it a couple of times. The only person I can actually enjoy watching is Jeffrey Z.
I like Sunny but I can't watch her show for the same reason I can't watch her on this show...she talks SO much! I agree with the others that Katie Lee's voice is hard to listen to. I am not a fan of Jeff Mauro (too goofy) and Marcella is just, I don't know, irritating.
I like the content of The Chew but find most hosts annoying on that show.
Why can't people cook food without all the talking and shouting?

                  1. I don't enjoy it.
Don't think they much like each other.
I could easily be wrong there, but the tone is off to me.
I think they're trying to do what the Talk did in trying to capture what the View has. I tape the Chew and do enjoy it for the most post. but will admit to FFW'ing it often times simply because I don't like the recipe they're making.

                    1. I saw it a few times and have to agree with the previous comments.

Jeff Mauro is fine. Some of his sammiches look really good and he's quite creative.

I even enjoy Sunny in this format, much more so here than in her own show, where she tends to just chatter needlessly.

I also like seeing Geoffrey who seems so much more low key and looser.

The only one I just wish they would help is Katie. She's attractive and competent but nothing unique. And that voice! Holy nasal shrillness! A voice coach or surgery..... something needs to happen to help that poor thing. Fingernails on a blackboard. (Did I just date myself?)

                      1. I agree they are trying too hard to be like The Chew. Chew got off to a rough start (they were strangers aside from Batali and Symon) but it clear now they are friends off the set as well and have developed a good chemistry between themselves and with the audience.

I watch The Kitchen on occasion because it's an opportunity to see Geoffrey Zacharian at work.

They refer to him as GZ on the show....
When they kept advertising Daniel Ratcliffe of Harry Potter fame last week as their upcoming guest I just rolled my eyes and said no more.

                          1. I cannot stand the fake audience -what is it, like 3 people!?
