Where to buy (in or near West LA) vegetarian fish sauce??

I've been able to find this out in Monterey Park (99 Ranch Market, etc), and also down in Artesia. But I'd love to save the 2-3 hour round trip, if there are markets on the Westside that carry this.

If you also happen to have suggestions as to different brands, that also would be appreciated. (I've been using the Au Lac version, which has been fine. But, since I don't eat fish/fish products, I obviously can't compare it to the real thing.)

  1. I have never used a store-bought vegetarian fish sauce before, but I do eat a lot of fish sauce and make my own vegetarian version often as well. In place of fish sauce I use the same total amount of either:

    (a) 1 part balsamic vinegar, 1 part Maggi sauce (or Maggi sauce substitute -- I use wheat-free Braggs Liquid Aminos);

    (b) 1 part balsamic vinegar, 1 part soy sauce (or soy sauce substitute -- I actually use wheat-free Tamari);

    (c) 2 parts balsamic vinegar, 1 part Maggi sauce (or Maggi sauce substitute), 1 part soy sauce (or soy sauce substitute)

    My favorite is (c), but all three are totally suitable for me.

    1. It must be pointed out that none of these options taste like fish sauce. Vegetarian oyster sauce, on the other IMO is more successful.
