Sicily, Amalfi and Capri Dining Suggestions Please

  • 5

We will be travelling to eastern coast of Sicily (4 days), Amalfi (3 days) and Capri (3 days) in early July. Can anyone recommend dining spots for lunch and dinner? We love all types of food and varied influences; also a good mix of casual and finer dining. Any suggestions for excellent hotels with central locations for day trips would be a help also.
Thanks in advance for your replies.

  1. For lunch in Capri I love spending the day at a beach club. Il Faro in Anacapri and Da Luigi are both good choices for a day of lounging, swimming and great food.

In Amalfi make sure to have a morning pastry or sunset cocktail at the elegant cafe Pansa in the main piazza.

    1. I dined sublimely at Don Alfonso 1890, Sant'Agata sui due Golfi.

      1. I would highly second the Don Alfonso recommendation, if it wasn't so far from Amalfi and Capri.

I second Gillian's Andrea Pansa suggestion. We stopped there for cornetti in the morning and aperitivo in the evening. We had a fantastic dinner at Lido Azzuro in Amalfi also.

I would also suggest catching the bus or a cab to Acquapazza in Cetara for lunch or dinner.

        1. I was in the eastern coast of Sicily last September. Lots of good places. I recommend you visit the island of Ortygia in Siracusa. Very pretty with lots of cool places to eat. We liked 1921. We were with kids so we only ate at trattorias, but Ortygia has everything. I posted more information last fall, here: http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/9168...

You may also want to check Arthur Schwartz's website. I think he lives in Sicily part of the year.
