Chinese restaurant help needed

Will be in Boston in May. Would a restaurant in Chinatown that serves
Cantonese food. Looking for shrimp in brown lobster sauce and eggrolls and other dishes unique to Boston. Price is not an object, I just would like an upscale restaurant.

  1. Upscale and Chinatown are oxymorons. The two most upscale places are probably Q (a hotpot place) and Shojo (modern take on food from all over Asia with a strong cocktail program).

My favorite seafood place in Chinatown is Peach Farm.

I don't think those places have the type of Chinese food they're looking for, do they? There really aren't any "upscale" places that serve those type of dishes. Lobster sauce is my fav dish. I would suggest Golden Temple in Brookline(a 10 minute ride from downtown Boston) or Kowloon. Kowloon is farther...about a 20 minute ride, but is a tiki type. Polynesian Chinese restaurant that is a rare find now. Look at their website. A much more festive type place.

    2. My suggestion would be East Ocean City in Chinatown but keep in mind that it is not exactly "upscale". They have live seafood in tanks that you can select and they will prepare in various ways. My favorite (if "price is not an object") is the Alaskan King Crab with Salt and Chili Pepper. The crabs are alive before they are quickly flash fried (no batter) and then tossed with a mixture of salt and chili pepper. The combination of the sweet crab meat and the salt and chili is absolutely delicious. I recommend that you have a group of people to share this because it would be too much for just one or two people. They also do great Clams with Black Bean Sauce, Lobster with Ginger and Scallions, Steamed Fish and many other types of seafood.

      1. I'd say Bernard's in Chesnut Hill matches what you're looking for. It's not in Chinatown but it does upscale versions of classics like Shrimp with lobster sauce & Eggrolls in a nice setting.

Any thoughts about Chinatown in Stoughton? One of the guys I work with is from Sharon and he says this place is excellent.

Not upscale, but very good "Americanized" Chinese food. It's exactly the type of food you're looking for.

If you are considering going out further from Boston, Feng Shui in Chelmsford might be what you are looking for. Very nice setting, not too adventurous a menu. Easy to get to from route 3 or route 495.

          2. I'd go to Billy Tse's in the NE/Waterfront. Not upscale, but a nice space with a great bar.

+1 on this, it's solid Chinese with exactly what the OP is looking for

            2. You just asked about this six weeks ago. What more info do you need?
